Scoring, basically, is putting that perfect crease onto the paper. You see, when you apply the fold, it puts great pressure on your print catalog that causes a crack in the fold itself. So rather than getting a perfect catalog printing job, you end up with an unsightly and noticeable imperfection. This is true when the ink spreads everywhere. To prevent this error, you’ve to “score” the paper before folding.
There are numerous ways that you can score. Although each method differs from the way they’re applied, they all have the basic concept of weakening the paper fibers by putting a hinge in the paper.
LITHO SCORING is an on-press method where a scoring rule is mounted to an impression cylinder. Several printers though find this method difficult for top-quality jobs.
LETTERPRESS SCORING, on the other hand, can be utilised to totally eliminate cracking. In letterpress scoring, a platen or a flatbed-cylinder letterpress is utilized to create a ridge in the paper. Applied with either a male die and matrix set, or a scoring/creasing rule and channel-creasing matrix, the end result is an exact and high quality score. → Continue

You can still enjoy your color prints even if you’ve a limited budget. Simply follow the tips below and you can achieve this.
Use color only on one side/part
The first thing you can do to cut the cost of your color printing is to print in full color, but on only one side of your printed material.
This is applicable to postcards, posters, note cards, business cards etc. Any kind of printed medium that has emphasis on its “front” design can have a full color front, while you can cut cost by printing in gray scale or only on black at the back.
This is a simple printing tactic that has the possibility of cutting your printed costs by a quarter or by almost half.
With only half your printed material printed in full color, the printing company should and will most likely give you a lower quote for color printing.
Other firms have used this concept in their booklet and catalog printing as well. They’ll use full color covers with all the beauty and advertising appeal they’ve, while they save money by just printing in black and white on the inside of the booklets and catalogs.
This is another good technique to save on printing costs, and still maintain a measure of quality in your published work. → Continue
